What forces led America to declare state of war on Britain in 1812? America declared war in 1812 because of two major(ip) occurrences that happened to them by Britain. The two major occurrences that caused the war to happen were, non allowing America to disdain with France even though America was seen as neutral, and imprisoning American seamen. This DBQ essay will provide information on why America declared war on Britain.

In 1807, Britain introduces a series of demands in the Council to impede American interchange with France during the war between Britain and France. Even though America was seen to be neutral during the war, Britain still didnt want America to trade with France. Britains government and country thought America presented a little terror to their maritime supremacy. America saw this to be illegal downstairs international law and that Britains restrictions violated its slump to trade with others. In 1805, secretary of the treasury Albert Gallatin stated that 9,000 sailors were born in Britain. The Royal Navy went after them by stealing and desire the U.S merchant ships for deserters. This outraged the Americans because it denied Americas ability to even up foreigners. British started to imprison American citizens that were originally born in Britain.

On June 1, 1812, President pack Madison sent a message to the congress, recounting American grievances against Great Britain.
