Over three billion people, nearly half the worlds population, live on less than $2.50 a day. One in two children is born into poverty. According to UNICEF, 22,000 children make pass each day due to poverty. And they die quietly in some of the poorest villages on earth, far removed from the scrutiny and the scruples of the world. Being meek and weak in life makes these expiry multitudes even more invisible in death. These are the cold, operose facts. It is not a question of whether the wealthier nations should help the poorer countries, that should be a given, the more important question is what kind of aid should be provided.

Some of the greatest empires in the western world were reinforced on the exploitation and colonization of the presently poorer nations. Great Britain is a prime example of a country that made its wealth out of exploiting those weaker and less knowledgeable than them.



The areas with the worst outlook in terms of poverty are South Asia and Sub-Saharan African countries, coincidentally, the places that were occupied by European countries, notably Great Britain. The new economic difficulties which are faced by these nations were cause by the systematic incongruence in the sharing of wealth which survived past the chance of the colonialists. Thus they share the responsibility with the local government in righting the wrongs of poor economic policies.
