Specifically Stereotypical
The absolute majority of people experience stereotyping in one form or an other. At nigh point, almost every person has make generalizations of others. Conversely, almost every person has been the subject of generalizations at some point in his/her life as well. My life is not different. I have been a victim of stereotyping and have been blamable of stereotyping as well. Three different embosss that I have undergo in my own life are related to ethnicity, otherworldliness and health. Each of these stereotypes, and the assumptions made because of them, has impacted my life and changed my perspective of other people as well as changing the counseling that others perceive me.
One might ask, What are stereotypes? Stereotypes can be defined as predispositions and/or opinions regarding another person ground on characteristics of that person. Stereotype as a verb means to suppose unfairly that all people or things with a ill-tempered characteristic are the same. (Merriam-Webster, Incorporated , 2012). An example of a stereotype related to ethnicity would be when a person says of an African-American person, she speaks so well.
This is all too often the case when people who put one over that African-American people are not intelligent or that black people are incapable of being articulate. Because I am not unintelligent, and choose not to conform to social standards regarding how I should speak, I have, since grade school been referred to as an Oreo. The marches oreo refers to an Oreo cookie which is black on the international and white on the inside. Most recently, I heard person make such a reference regarding President Obama and I was highly offended by that statement. That reference reminded me of all of the time that I too, had been classified by my choice to represent myself in an articulate manner.
